1st Annual National Art Honor Society Exhibition at the James A. Michener Art Museum

Come support the CB West National Art Honor Society on June 4th from 1:00-3:00!  This exhibition will celebrate the amazing talents of our members and dedication to the arts!

With the scholarship money we raised, we are sending two kids to the Michener's amazing art classes!  It's an incredible feeling to be able to give back to those who have helped you.  A few years ago I received a scholarship to attend the Michener's fashion design class.  This class sparked my desire to become a fashion designer, and do what I truly love!  I hope that the recipients of the scholarship will have lots of fun, learn amazing things, and become inspired to explored their passion of art as a career!  Barack Obama says it best: "The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create."

I Made a Print!

I created this print in my photography class, and transferred it onto a skirt.  This print is of a picture I took of a 35mm camera.

Prom - Be Original, Be Yourself!

This is my Ebru Gown that I made for my senior prom.  Everything from the starting sketch, to the design on the fabric is completely my own.  I taught myself Ebru, which is an ancient Turkish water marbling technique.  Ebru is traditionally done on paper or scarves, but I wanted to challenge myself and do something that was original. I learned so much on this long journey of creating this piece.  Every piece of it reflects of piece of me, and I am so proud of this gown and myself.

During the creation of this gown, and my experiences with Ebru I have learned that Everything moves together, but not everything will move the same way.  We are all human beings, no different from one another.  What makes us diverse is our passions.  For me, it is art and fashion, and maybe for you it could be music or animals.  But we are all similar, yet different.  I believe we need to take our differences and celebrate them.

I have always tried to be different than the crowd, not because I want to stand out but because individuality is so inspiring.  As soon as the art of Ebru was brought into my life, I have had an overwhelming wave of reassurance; Beauty is uniqueness, beauty is differences, beauty is individuality.

Wear what you want and don’t worry what they think.  Prom is your time to shine and it’s your time to make yourself happy.  If you want to wear pants, wear it.  If you want to wear a tux, wear it.  If you want to wear a short dress, wear it.  Be crazy and colorful, but just be sure that you're being you.
